Enable Panorama Camera Mode In iOS 5 With Firebreak (Jailbreak)

As promised, the popular iPhone developer chpwn released a tweak named Firebreak to enable panorama camera mode in iOS 5 camera app. The hack based on editing some files inside the System folders to get panorama features in iOS 5. Firebreak makes the process much easier for normal users.

You’ll surely need to jailbreak your device so follow our guide posted here for tethered jailbreak and here for semi tethered then open Cydia and let it update. Once done, search for “Firebreak” then download and install it.

Once installed you’ll be able to use the feature directly from your camera iOS app. Just as below and seen before:

What are you waiting for? Firebreak is available for free under BigBoss repository in Cydia.

iOS 5 Panorama Camera Mode Uncovered, New Jailbreak Tweak Coming To Enable The Feature

We’ve previously told you that the Panorama camera mode in iOS camera app was found inside iOS 5 betas’ code. Some hackers today were able to enable the panorama camera mode of the Camera app in iOS 5 by changing a key value in the iOS SDK.

The exposed panorama mode allows iPhone users to capture a panorama image by snapping photos continually from left to right. The screenshot below showing how the interface works on the iOS camera app.

A sample of an image taken with panorama mode:

The hack to enable panorama camera mode was found by Conrad Kramer and the developer claims (on Twitter) that he’ll be releasing a new tweak to allow everyone to get it. (update: the tweak coming out tomorrow).

Since the files are there on iOS 5 and the mode successfully enable, Apple will be surely releasing the feature soon. Jailbreak always makes things happen before Apple does.

Firebreak: Jailbreak Tweak Makes It Very Easy To Enable Panorama Mode In Camera App In iOS 5

Few minutes back, we had reported that an iOS developer and hacker had figured out a way to enable the hidden Panorama mode in the Camera app in iOS 5.

chpwn - developer of jailbreak apps such as developer of jailbreak apps such as Infiniboard, Infinidock,Infinifolder, ProSwitcher,VoiceActivator has just released a jailbreak tweak called Firebreak that enables the Panorama mode in iOS 5 for users who have jailbroken their iPhone.

chpwn just tweeted the availability of the tweak on Cydia:

Firebreak (enable the hidden iOS 5 panorama) is now out in Cydia!

(Also, a quick appslide update for Notification Center issues is out.)

The jailbreak tweak enables the feature by setting 'EnableFirebreak' to YES in com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist.

The Panorama mode needs a gyroscope, so it will only work with iPhone 4 currently and whenever a jailbreak is available for iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

You can download the jailbreak tweak for free from Cydia.

iOS 5 Hacked To Enable Hidden Panorama Mode In Camera App [Updated]

Apple introduced a number of new features to the Camera app in iOS 5 such as the lock screen shortcut, pinch-to-zoom gestures, volume button shutter and editing features.

It looks like Apple was also planning to add the "Panorama" mode in iOS 5 as an iOS developer with Twitter handle @conradev has figured out a way to enable this hidden feature.

MacRumors reports that the developer was able to enable the feature by setting 'EnableFirebreak' to YES in com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist.

Clearly Apple had been testing the Panorama mode as a possible feature for iOS 5, but for whatever reason it didn't make the cut into the final release. The user interface shows that a user can capture individual photos from left to right and the software will stitch it together.

Meanwhile, jailbreak app developer chpwn has submitted a tweak to Cydia that will enable the "Panorama" mode for jailbroken iPhones.

This is not a major feature as number of apps are available in the App Store that allow users to take panoramic photos, but having this ability in the native Camera app would be pretty cool.

It is not clear why Apple decided to keep this feature hidden in the final release. It is possible that Apple is planning to enable it as one of the major features in iOS 5.1.

Update:

Firebreak - jailbreak tweak to enable Panorama mode in the Camera app for iOS 5 is now available
