App Developer Discovers Security Flaw In iOS, Gets Licensed Revoked!

Charlie Miller on Monday discovered that there is a flaw in the security system for iOS. The app was able to run arbitrary codes. All the codes that are necessary for the standards of Apple were submitted and they were not able to identify the bypass.

He had found a bug that would allow the app to break the restrictions and access any data on the iOS. Instead of just discovering it, Miller decided to test out this bug. Miller developed an app containing the restricted codes and later the app was accepted and was available at the App Store.

As intended the app was able to bypass the security breach and contact the remote computer which allowed it to send and receive personal data on the iOS. Furthermore it was also able to play sounds, make the phone vibrate. Unknown commands were being executed from the remote computer. The app was also able to reach out and affect other apps by shutting them down maliciously.

As soon as the news reached Apple; Miller’s developer license was revoked. “This letter serves as notice of termination of the iOS Developer Program License Agreement… between you and Apple,” the email read. “Effective immediately.”

Apple Secretly Seeding iOS 5.0.1 To End Users Fixing The Battery Life Issue

Releasing the software update earlier to the developers to test out applications and improvements in battery life and Siri, the new update iOS 5.0.1, is now being seeded to selected customers of the iOS for testing. Some customers who have complained about the battery issue are now being seeded a software update of iOS 5.0.1 through the Apple’s AppleSeed Program.

Apple has also warned the people taking part in the program of the situation not being able to downgrade to the previous iOS 5. However they will be able to upgrade to the final version which is expected to release in few weeks.

In addition to the new update being secretly tested; the Apple Retail Stores have received a memo on how to deal with the battery life issue. For now the employees at stores are advised not to replace any phone and to tell the customers on waiting for a few more days until software update is available. So if you are facing such issues. Just Wait!

Apple: “We Currently Have No Plans To Bring Siri To Older Devices”

Most of you have read the news about that Apple is testing Siri on older iOS devices and that has been confirmed by 9to5mac yesterday but the site claimed that Apple won’t be releasing Siri for iPhone 4. If you had any doubts, just get them away.

Apple today confirmed to Michael Steeber, the founder of MSComputerVideos, that they have no plans to bring Siri to older devices.

Steeber contacted Apple about bringing Siri to other devices by releasing an iOS software update, and Apple replied back by saying “we currently have no plans to support older devices.”

Here’s Apple’s reply:

Engineering has provided the following feedback regarding this issue:Siri only works on iPhone 4S and we currently have no plans to support older devices.

9to5mac added:

That doesn’t mean however that developers won’t continue to work on building Siri for later iOS device — like the iPhone 4 and 3GS.

As previously told, and now confirmed, Siri won’t be enabled on iPhone 4 and other older devices except when an iPhone 4S jailbreak comes so now let’s hope hackers get it soon.

Facebook’s New Timeline Is Coming To The iPhone, It’s Incredible!

According to Ellis Hamburger over at BusinessInsider, Facebook is bringing a new update soon for its popular iPhone app to allow you to use the new Facebook’s Timeline profile. That profile design which was introduced during the F8 back in September. We’d really like to see this happening on the iPhone.

Hamburger says that feature is coming to the iPhone and it looks ‘incredible’. He claims that he’d a chance to see the interface at press function in New York yesterday.

Just wait until you see Timeline in action on a touch screen device. It’s so good it will make you want to skip the desktop experience and just use Facebook on your iPhone. Timeline is built to be manipulated on a touch screen.

Swiping through the years of your life is effortless, and Flynn even showed me a slick new feature that lets you take pictures “in line” inside your Timeline. In this way, you can see exactly how the pictures will look once they’re posted.

The lead designer for Facebook’s mobile Timeline interface told Hamburger that the feature is launching soon but it’s not yet ready. We’ll get back for any updates soon.

How To Make Custom Shortcuts For Your Favorite Settings Without Jailbreak

After the release of iPhone 4S back in October 2011,we have got many features but without jailbreak. I know that it was the latest release in Apple iPhone’s that is why there weren’t any chances of jailbreak in it. Every one knows that jail breaking has provided us many luxurious settings like Wifi, Blue tooth, and Air plane mode etc.

Many people today are still unaware of how to set custom shortcuts for your settings as WiFi and Airplane mode since they were used to jailbreak their iOS devices. In this article you will learn how to set all your favorite settings without the use of jailbreak.
First we use IconProject to create the custom icons with specific URL links to assure their settings app sections. You can buy this IconProject from the app store for just $0.99. It is very easy to use and the far best app I have seen.

It is not a replacement for SBSettings since they can be allowed for direct toggle. It also provides shortcut for setting apps. I know it is not a replacement. It is just a compromise until the untethered jailbreak on iOS 5 will be released.

You can get shortcut addresses to the various panels of the Settings app. Once you download the app on your iPhone, open it and add your favorite URL to create icons.

Here are all the shortcuts in the Settings app:

Get The Android Ice 4.0 Cream Sandwich LockScreen On Your iOS Now (Jailbreak)

Due to the ever increasing battle between smartphone devices present in the market, mainly by Apple, Android and Microsoft Windows, the frequent product and features updates coming into the market, not every feature can be captured by a company’s competitors.

Companies have been battling to get patents regarding a unique feature that they come up with first, so as their rivals cannot introduce the same feature in their next model.

Comparing these smartphones on the basis of their lock screens, Apple was the pioneer of the “slide to unlock” screen feature. To prohibit its rivals from copying this special feature the company obtained patent rights for it. Its competitors came up with a slightly different, yet creative version of the “slide to unlock” screen feature, such as the “join the dots” features seen in most Android smart phones.

Google is seen to be working on the Ice Cream Sandwich, which includes various cosmetic updates for its smart phone, including the lock screen feature.

You can find a jailbreak tweak on Cydia which enables you to get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich theme to your iOS. You can find this tweak by the name of AndroidLockXT on Cydia if you wish to experience the Ice Cream Sandwich theme on your iOS software.

You surely must jailbreak your device. You can use our guide to jailbreak iOS 5 tethered, semi-tethered or iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak. Once jailbroken, head to Cydia and search for AndroidLockXT then install it.

iDownloadBlog has made a video showing it in action:

Give Your Mac OS X An iOS 5-Like Notifications With This Growl Theme

iOS 5 software update from Apple launched by Apple last month with more than 200 features. For me, the most important feature is iOS 5 notifications. Have you ever thought of getting the notifications style in iOS 5? If so, we’ve a pretty good solution for you.

The iOS 5 comes with notification center which makes everything on your device organized. Moreover, thanks to the jailbreak, you can add your own customized widgets to the notification center.

This “awesome” notification center is almost here on Mac OS X. You won’t get all functions but you’ll get most of the notifications system. The theme of Growl comes from SkyJohn over at Macthemes. You must have Growl installed on your OS X, it can be found over the Mac App Store for $1.99.

Once installed, now you’ll be able to get iOS 5 notifications on your Mac OS X by heading over this link.

Apple Updates The ‘Apple Store’ App To Support Self-Checkout System For Retail Stores

Apple has recently updated its app ‘App Store’ which runs on the iOS. The update has been done to support the new self-checkout system at the retail stores allowing buyers to purchase items in Apple’s retail stores without the need for a clerk to take their payment.

The App Store 2.0 now comes with the following new features:

Personal Pick Up:  Buy in the app and choose to pick up your order at any Apple Retail Store. Most in-stock orders are available for pickup within an hour.EasyPay: Purchase select accessories in store quickly by scanning the barcode and completing your transaction right in the app. (U.S. only, requires iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S)Track your stuff: View the status of current and previous orders from the order status section in the More tab.

The App allows customers to walk-in the store, pick up an item from the shelf, scan the barcode with their iPhone’s camera and pay for it online through the EasyPay option. This reduces the need to find a in store sales clerk to help process the transaction.

With the new iPhone 4S being sold out in minutes this has become a great facility for consumers to pre-pay for their order and be notified when the item is available.

Google: Siri Could Be A “Google Killer”

So Google sees a new challenger in the search engine war. You might be thinking it’s another search engine like Yahoo, Bing or some new upcoming search engines such as DuckDuckGo or Blekko. but it’s not.

The surprise is that we’rex talking about Siri, the new voice enabled personal assistance coming with the iPhone 4S. This news was a shock to us because the executive chairman of Google, Eric Schmidt, praised the new developed technology and believes to be an innovation in internet searching.

May be Schmidt just wanted to ease off the ongoing investigation against Google claiming that they are monopolizing the search engine industry. To reason with this, Google already had voice enable search on iOS and different Android devices. So Siri not an innovation but actually more of evolution to what was already there.

And the biggest argument is that Siri uses Google as its default search engine. You can also try other search engines like speaking ‘Search Bing for Weather’. But if you do not so it will show Google results. You can also change the default search engine from the settings but for now Siri is pre-set to Google.

So In our view until and unless Apple comes up with their own search engine to accompany Siri, Google should not feel any threat from Siri.

How To Get Siri’s Sister VoiceOver To Read Emails (VIDEO)

Apple has incorporated a voiceover feature in all of its iPhone models after the 3G. To understand what this features provides its users with, one has to first know what a voiceover feature does. VoiceOver is a feature added by many mobile phone companies for the visually impaired. This feature allows the visually impaired user of an iPhone have the screen read to them out loud so they can use and operate the phone accordingly.

The voiceover feature is simply brilliant since it allows even those who are less fortunate amongst us, to avail this device to the best of its capabilities.

If you are an iPhone user, you can easily turn on this voiceover option by going into the Settings of your phone and clicking on the General tab. When you have done that, you need to access the Accessibility menu. In the Accessibility menu, you will see the Voiceover option and all you need to do is turn it on permanently. In the case of those users who are visually impaired the voiceover option should be permanently turned on, but in the case of regular iPhone users, you can attach this feature with a specific feature such as Triple clicking the home button as a way of turning it on or off.

Here’s a video showing done by one of our team showing it in action:

Apple Replaces Your First Generation iPod Nano Due To Battery Issue

Apple Inc, which is the leading multination corporation of electronic hardware and software, has opened a replacement program for the first Generation iPod nano. The reason of this replacement is that these iPod nano’s are causing serious overheating problems.

Originally these components were sold between the months of September and December in the year 2005. According to Apple, the overheating problem is not on a large scale if the battery of these iPods is newly built but as these iPod nano’s are already five years old the chance of overheating are very high.

This is why, Apple started this replacement program in which it is telling people to stop using their first generation iPod nano and replace it with another one free of charge. This program is applicable through Apple’s website. The person, first have to write the serial number of his iPod to move forward then after filling the complete replacement page the user have to wait for six weeks.  After this break of six week, replacement unit for the first generation iPod nano will be sent to its user.

The important thing about this program is that first it is only for the first generation iPod nano and second after the break it will not replace the product of late informers. You can get additional information from any Apple retail store or an Apple authorized service provider.

AT&T Launches VoIP App To Make International Calls — Download Now!

AT&T has launched its own app for smartphones to make international calls over the internet. This has been an answer to the highly acclaimed Skype which most people are still using on their smartphones to make calls over the internet.

The new app called piggybacks has been branded by the carrier itself. It allows the users in U.S to make international calls over their 3G networks which is much cheaper as compare to calling from their own AT&T network. Users can also make calls where a Wi-Fi connection is available. As long as you are hooked to an internet connection you are ready to go.

With the new app you can make calls to fixed line numbers in China, France, Germany and the UK at 4 cents/minute. To Mexico and India you can make calls to fixed line numbers at 8 cents and 9 cents respectively. Calling cellphones is still a little bit expensive. It can cost you around 21 to 27 cents per minute to call European number and the same rate is applicable to wireless numbers in China and India.

In addition to the availability on iPhones the app is also available on selected Android and Blackberry cellphones. You can also request for separate billing to your AT&T account. And the good part is there is no contract or minimum calling required!

iOS & Android Beat Sony & Nintendo In Portable Gaming

Mobile analytics firm Flurry reported on Wednesday that trend of portable gaming is shifting from dedicated devices to smartphones and other multipurpose devices. According to results compiled by Flurry from NPD market research, Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android mobile OS will take up for almost 58% of portable gaming revenue in the United States for 2011, this is the complete opposite of what was happening in 2010 where Nintendo owned the same percentage of market share.

The data for 2011 is based on estimated of the last two months, however, the increasing growth in gaming on smartphones the actual statistics might remain the same. The ability to download somewhat free games or very cheap games to pass time surely casual gaming trend would have been expected to rise in the smartphones. Furthermore the ability to purchase new titles or read reviews about them from the ease of your hand held device who would want to go out and look for expensive game titles. Don’t forget the huge success of angry birds!

Nintendo’s decision not to make their games available on multiple platform might eventually hurt the company. Sony has already realized the situation and is now working on providing the same aspects of a smartphone to its portable gaming devices. Furthermore the recent Sony Ericsson release of an gaming smartphone named the Xperia Play will also be a good asset towards the smartphone gaming industry.

Reasons Behind Motorola’s Restriction Against Apple In Germany

It is a true phrase that “As you sow so shall you reap”. The real life example of this phrase has been given by the Apple. Every one knows how Apple tried to ban Samsung over the matter of patents. Apple has humiliated Samsung on these matters but still it didn’t have the last laugh. It is famous all over the world that all these multinational corporations try to sue each other only to get ahead of the competition. Some of them succeed while some fail.

It is recent news that on Friday 4th of November 2011, Apple, the same company who tried to ban Samsung on the matter of patents, was sued by Motorola on the same matter. Motorola won the primarily injunction against Apple at Germany.

In the court, the conclusion didn’t mention any Apple products by name, but said that the Apple can’t offer any mobile devices that violate on two Motorola patents related to wireless technology, that makes the iPhone and iPad the most likely to be affected. The court also says that if Apple did not respect this judgement, then it may have to pay a €250,000 on court’s decision.

The only reason why Apple got in this situation was because its representatives never show up in the court and didn’t care about its judgment. So in the end, Apple was not worried about this case as they have already won many cases of patents around the world.

Discover How Angry Birds Really Works

It is unanimous, that one of the most popular iPhone and iPad app till date is Angry Birds. Starting from its highly amusing and catchy music and sound effects, to the adorable animated character and the highly engaging game itself, there is hardly an Apple user who hasn’t played this game.

The popularity of this game can be estimated by the fact that this game is now playable in web browsers too, Google Chrome being the pioneer web browsing application to allow its users to play a mini-version of the game.

Have you ever wondered how to actually play and master the game? Have you ever wondered whether the birds and the catapults along with your swing, acceleration and tap have a relationship or is there just a random pattern the shots follow? Have you ever wondered whether physics or math comes into play when taking an aim at the pigs on the other end of the screen? If you have, you are thinking along the same lines as Wired’s Rhett Allain.

He has been consistently applying the concepts and theories of physics and math to this game, which to the masses appears to be a mere source of entertainment and game play. By measuring the vertical and horizontal velocity and acceleration of the birds, Rhett Allain, tries to undercover the dynamics of this successful app.

But what about the physics? Do the birds have a constant vertical acceleration? Do they have constant horizontal velocity? Let’s find out, shall we? Oh, why would I do this? Why can’t I just play the dumb game and move on? That is not how I roll. I will analyze this, and you can’t stop me.

A small excerpt for math lovers:

Just to check, let me make a plot of the magnitude of the velocity right before the tap vs. the acceleration during the tap. Oh, it looks like all of the shots have the yellow bird accelerating (due to the tap) for 0.067 seconds. Of course this acceleration could just be due to the screen capture frame rate.

It doesn’t look like there is a simple relationship here. It also doesn’t look like the tap-acceleration is constant. The magnitude of this acceleration ranged from 124 m/s2 to 336 m/s2.

How To Dictate Notes In Evernote With Siri On iPhone 4S

Folks at Evernote have figured out a way to use Siri - iPhone 4s' revolutionary voice activated personal assistant feature to dictate notes into Evernote account.

Andrew Sinkov has explained how to get Siri to work with Evernote on their blog:

make Evernote a contact in your address book with your incoming Evernote email address. You can add the email by going into Evernote > Settings > Evernote email address.

Launch Siri and say “Send email to Evernote.” Next, dictate your email and send it off. The message will show up in your default notebook. Even cooler, you can say “Send email to Evernote. Make apple pie for family reunion,” and Siri will send that note into your account.

It is great to see companies like Evernote and Remember the Milk figuring out a way to get their apps to work with Siri, which is easily the hottest smartphone feature of 2011.

Initial Reports Indicate iOS 5.0.1 Fixes Battery Life Issues

Battery

Apple's iOS 5.0.1 update to address battery life concerns faced by a number of users, according to initial reports iOS 5.0.1 software is "nothing short of amazing". Most developers who have used iOS 5.0.1 beta reported much better battery life when on iOS 5.0.1.

Wired and Twitter have some quotes from users on iOS 5.0.1, here are a few of them:

"Frankly the difference is nothing short of amazing. To go almost an entire day without a change in the meter reading seems unbelievable. Where before I could almost watch the battery drain, now it doesn’t move at all."

@thebertolet: done [updated] it on a 3GS, a AT&T iPhone 4, and a 4s as shown. The 4s has gone from 15% loss per hour to 3-4%.

@sweet_431: My battery life has noticeably improved, I now only need to charge every other day as opposed to every day.

@itsmekhoi: I updated to IOS 5.0.1 beta 2 (9A404) and I definitely notice the battery life improvement.

Not all users reported improvement with the update, however:

@xHacKx: I have it and I don't see any improvements to the battery life of my iPhone 4. I'm running iOS 5.0.1 Beta 2

@ggfevans: sadly no difference in battery life (around 4 and a half hours of usage, 6 standby). only change I've noted is the version number

The last beta was seeded to developers just less than a week ago and we expect Apple to release it to the users anytime soon.

If you've installed iOS 5 beta then let us know what has been your experience.

iPhone Users Reporting Issues With Address Book After iOS 5.0.1 OTA Update

Apple has just confirmed that iOS 5.0.1 hasn't fixed all iPhone battery issues, and if that wasn't bad enough, users have started reported new problems after upgrading to the latest iOS software update.

Paul Hontz of The Startup Foundry writes that after upgrading to iOS 5.0.1 via the over-the-air (OTA) update has screwed up the address book on his iPhone.

Hontz writes:

I updated my iPhone 4S earlier today (using the OTA method), and I discovered a nasty bug. My iPhone could no longer remember the names of any of my contacts! I opened up the contacts app on my phone and discovered that all of entries were still there but if I got a text or a call my iPhone would have a sudden bout of amnesia and forget the contacts name.

It’s even more bizarre when you’re trying to create a new text. In the example above I texted Erin Hontz. After I selected her as the contact, I wrote my message and hit send. In the message pane (pictured on the right) it would forget my contact’s name and just show the number.

Hontz is not the only one to face this issue. DC - one of our readers has just commented about an issue with iPhone contacts after upgrading to iOS 5.0.1:

Battery levels stayed the same. Where the update screwed me was my contacts. If I don't have the "+ 1" format entered, the name of the contact doesn't show up. Planning on restoring to factory settings.

According to Hontz, the issue seems to be affecting only iPhone 4S users. Hontz has provided the following workaround to fix the issue:

1) Open the Phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number. 2) When the system answer press 1 for “Program or activate your phone” 3) Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating something like, “Settings updated.” 4) Open the Task Manager (double click the home button) and kill the Phone, Message, and Contacts Applications 5) Wait a few minutes (I waited 3 just to be extra safe) 6) Open the Message App to verify the fix.

If you are still broken, kill the Message App again, then reboot your phone.

Did iOS 5.0.1 also mess up your iPhone Contacts? Let us know if the workaround helped.

Apple Again Erasing Developers’ iTunes Match Libraries Tomorrow — Launch Imminent?

Apple has notified the developers who are testing the prerelease beta of iTunes Match service that the matched libraries will be erased for another time on 12 Nov. The erasing has been planned to prepare for the forthcoming launch of iTunes Match. The service which was scheduled to be launched in October but missed its debut is yet to be confirmed for being made publically available.

Developers have been asked to shut off the iTunes Match on all iOS devices and computers as Apple has announced to delete all current iCloud libraries on 12nd November at 10 AM Pacific Time. The iTunes match can be turned off by choosing ‘Turn Off iTunes Match’ under the ‘Store’ menu in iTunes on PC or a Mac. On iOS devices, open the native “Settings” application, choose “Music” and turn off iTunes Match. The songs on the computer would remain unaffected as mentioned in a note from Apple.

iTunes Match is still advertised under “Coming Soon” . It is expected to support music collections of around 25000 songs from $24.99 per year when it becomes publically available. Personal music libraries will be scanned by the service and matched with tracks sold on the iTunes store.

The subscribers can re-download any of the matched songs on other enabled iDevices. Even if the original files are of lower quality, those downloads will be 256 Kbps ACC files.

iPad 3 To Sport New Backlight Design For Retina Display (REPORT)

According to DigiTimes, Apple will be modifying its backlight solution for the iPad 3 as the single LED bar isn’t sufficient for the iPad’s retina display. The report says that Apple is considering two alternative backlight solutions for the iPad 3's Retina Display.

iPad 3

First solution is incorporating a single-bar form factor with two LED chips and the other solution uses dual-LED light bars, one on the left and the other on the right side of the display.

From DigiTimes:

LED back-light unit (BLU) vendors have reportedly offered two alternative backlight solutions for Apple to choose from for its next-generation iPad, according to sources at Taiwan-based BLU makers.

With the next-generation iPads expected to adopt LCD panels with resolutions higher than 2048 by 1536, the current single LED light bar designed for the iPad 2 has to be modify in order to maintain or strengthen the brightness of the panels, the sources explained.

Apple will most likely take on the dual LED backlight solution for iPad 3 since the vendors have solved heat dissipation and battery consumption issues.

Unlocked iPhone 4S Now Available In Apple’s U.S Online Store

Along with then iPhone 4S launches overseas, Apple’s online store has also began to offer unlocked iPhone 4S for the US customers. The customers who were waiting for the unlocked iPhone 4S can now expect the product to be shipped in 1-2 weeks after they have placed their orders.

The price is set according to the memory of the iPhone with $649 for 16 GB model , $749 for 32 GB model and $849 for 64 GB model. Only GSM networks support the unlocked iPhone 4S such as AT & T in the united states. A micro sim card can be bought when travelling overseas by the owners.

The drawback of the unlocked iPhone 4S is that it will not work on CDMA based networks such as Verizon or Sprint. The unlocked iPhone 4S arrives without a micro-SIM card so a micro-SIM card needs to be inserted in the slot of the iPhone and it can be turned on by pressing and holding the on/off button for a couple of seconds. Then the onscreen instructions should be followed to set up your iPhone.

How Siri’s ‘Raise To Speak’ Feature Works Unveiled

As the iPhone 4S users have been loving Siri the new personal assistant feature offered by Apple what they are not aware of how the “raise to speak’ feature works with the Siri. Siri is automatically activated whenever an active iPhone is raised to the user’s ear. iPhone has always been incorporated with a proximity sensor to turn off the screen of the device so that a user can not input anything accidentally when talking on the phone.

However, a new type of proximity sensor has been loaded in the iPhone 4S which actually activates the device when ever it is near the users face and the sensor it self always remain on.

The new infrared LED proximity sensor that comes with the iPhone 4S always keep working while the handset is in use while the iPhone 4's proximity sensor only used to be active when it was close to the ear. This new infrared sensor allows users to work with the ‘raise to speak’ feature available with the Siri Voice Recognition. Therefore the sensor turns off the screen on the iPhone 4S so that users do not press any buttons by accident when they are using Siri or making a phone call.

Experts at teardown company iFixit were able to highlight the sensor which was located inside the new iPhone 4S. Watch the video below to find out how the “raise to speak” features works because of the new infrared LED proximity sensor.

Enable Hidden Autocorrection Bar In iOS 5 With This Jailbreak Tweak (The Easy Way)

It was only yesterday when an android-like autocorrection bar in the iOS 5 keyboard was discovered and we showed you a guide to do it by editing some plist files. Today, we’ve got something much easier for normal users to enable the hidden autocorrection bar in iOS 5, a jailbreak tweak.

A new jailbreak tweak named AutocorrectionBar developed by the well-known developer Ryan Petrich which allows you to easily enable the hidden autocorrection bar in iOS 5 that is similar to the Android’s one.
This autocorrection bar will change the method by which iOS 5 displays the autocorrect alternative words since 2007. It will bring new way to correct your words and even adds a button for accessing action methods (select, paste, etc.).
You can install the tweak by jailbreaking your device on iOS 5 (follow the guide here) or iOS 5.0.1 (guide here) then open Cydia and search for “AutocorrectionBar”. Hit the install button then tap on Settings, AutocorrectionBar and change it to ON.

Do you like it or you prefer the old one? Share us your thoughts in the comments section below.

40% Of Pictures Posted On Twitter Comes From iOS

The latest study shows that around 40 percent of the photos posted on Twitter comes from apple devices. Instagram, Twitter for iPhone app and iOS 5's built in camera apps together contribute towards the share. The iOS 5 recently became the top 10 sharing clients of Twitter due to the integrated social network apps. Apple has left behind andriod which is only expected to have a 10% share in the overall photo tweets according to this study.

Twitter ‘s third party client’s like yFrog and Twitpic have been left behind by the partnership of Twitter with Photobucket in a combined effort to offer first party photo services.  Skylines also found out specific services are preferable by different clients and mobile platforms. E.g 47% of yFrog photos came from clients on blackberry, TwitPic got it’s 39% photos from android while 42% of Twitter’s official photo service came from Apple.
Being called a ‘corporate mentor’ by Twitter’s chief executive, Apple’s iOS 5 has been a blessing in disguise for the social network which has seen the daily sign ups from iOS devices tripled after the release of iOS 5. With the growing trend to sign up to social networking sites from iOS devices, the day might be near when Apple becomes the leading provider of global active users to all the social networking sites.

iOS 5.0.1 Jailbroken Using Redsn0w 0.9.9b8, Here’s How To Do It (How To Guide)

Apple earlier today released iOS 5.0.1 to the public for all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users. Just like previous releases – iOS 5.0.1 can be jailbroken using the latest version of the iPhone Dev Team’s tool, redsn0w.

The new software, iOS 5.0.1, can be jailbroken using redsn0w 0.9.9b8 and the SemiTether tool can be used on iOS 5.0.1 to bring semi-tethered jailbreak. For more information about the SemiTether, read my previous post here.
Supported devices for the below guide:
iPhone 4 (semi untethered)iPhone 3GS new bootrom (semi untethered)iPhone 3GS old bootrom (untethered)iPod touch 4G (semi untethered)iPod touch 3G (semi untethered)iPad 1 (semi untethered) Of course the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S jailbreaks are not yet available. If you’re looking forward to fast & future jailbreak, better not upgrade to iOS 5.0.1.
STEP 1: Download iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5.0.1 final version.
STEP 2: Backup your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and restore it using the iOS 5.0.1 IPSW file downloaded from the first step.
STEP 3: Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 for Windows or Mac OS X from here.
STEP 4: Open Redsn0w and select “Extras” then “Select IPSW” and browse for the iOS 5.0 IPSW file

STEP 5: Now click on “Jailbreak” then “Install Cydia”. You’ll need to follow the on-screen instructions to get your device into DFU mode.

STEP 6: Once jailbroken, your device will be rebooted.
STEP 7: Now open Redsn0w again and hit “Extras” then “Just Boot”.

STEP 8: Now head to Cydia then search for “SemiTether” and install the tool:

NOTE: The last step about SemiTether is optional for users. It will allow you to reboot your device without need to a computer to connect to. You’ll lose some functions like opening mail and almost all jailbreak tweaks. You can read more here.
