Pod2g Gives iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak To Chronic Dev Team For Release, Focuses On iPad 2 / iPhone 4S Jailbreak

Hey, jailbreaks, look at what news we’re bringing today! The iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak is almost here and guess what? GreenPois0n jailbreak tool will be back bringing iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for all A4 devices. Pod2g has recently updated his blog with a post informing users about the latest decision he made regarding his untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1.

greenpois0n ios 5.0.1 untethered

Pod2g says that he handed over the keys of his untethered jailbreak (which will untether iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1) to the Chronic Dev Team so that they can test it, finish it and release the jailbreak as soon as possible.

I gave all the details to the chronic dev team so that they can finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jb ASAP.

Moreover, pod2g mentioned that he’ll now focus on jailbreaking A5 devices as the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. He hopes that he find a path quickly.

I need to focus on A5 and hope I can find a path quick, and I have the feeling that chronic-dev could help me.

Well, in my opinion, I see this is good news for both iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S users since the iPhone 4 users will get the jailbreak very soon (I mean it) and iPhone 4S users will see some good progress in the next few days.

For now, you can subscribe to our newsletter to get the news once it’s here.

iPad 3 Release Date Set For Steve Jobs’ Birthday On February 24 (REPORT)

This new rumor says it all; Apple will release the iPad 3 on February 24, 2012 in honor of Steve Jobs’ birthday. According to Focus Taiwan, Apple’s iPad 3 release date is on Steve Jobs’ birthday anniversary.

The newspaper gets its sources close to Taiwanese makers in Apple’s supply chain:

After the iPhone 4S successfully took the tech market by storm, the iPad3 is widely expected to be Apple’s first hit product to be released next year. Industry sources said the first shipment of the iPad3 could exceed 4 million units. Because it is a new gadget, it is taking time for makers in the supply chain to raise their yield rates. The sources said all OEM and ODM makers have exercised great caution in ensuring the smooth operations of their production lines.

iOS Multitasking Gestures With Less Fingers (VIDEO)

Apple came out to be considerate about two biggest flaws of the operating system that includes dependence on notifications and dependence on a computer, via release of iOS 5. Some provisionary steps have also been taken in order to improve its multi tasking capabilities. This includes addition of four and five-finger multi tasking gestures to the iPad 2. This has made easy for users to switch between apps and get to the Home screen of the device.

Since Apple first introduced multi tasking gestures on first generation iPad, I’ve been using them as developer beta in iOS 4.3. Apple initially took this feature away from iOS however now it has come back publically available and is the first update to iOS and thus I rushed to update my iPad too.

It makes sense to use four or five fingers to get to the Home screen or to bring multitasking bar, or sidebars to switch between apps on the iPad’s large screen. However if compared to iPhone, it doesn’t sounds that practical and may end up as trouble.

For this conundrum that utilizes an edge-based gesture, UI designer Max Rudberg has come up with a solution. The video below shows the application of bringing up the multitasking bar with a single finger. It tends to be simple and makes complete sense for Apple too to add it to their OS.

Moving ahead, it would be awesome application addition in order to move from one application to another you can swipe in from the left to right edge, just like you do horizontal swipe with four finger gesture on the iPad. Now u need to put less effort in switching between your browser or text editor, notes, email clients etc.

It’s not the first time when apple has re fixed existing gestures to make them functional using smaller surfaces or few fingers, if this addition comes in and is applied. To make them work with the Magic Mouse, company later reduced the four finger multi tasking gesture to one-and-two finger gesture.

Third party apps which already use edge-based gestures from their features will have a clash with this new gesture like the multitasking gesture on the iPad. In our opinion, it would be wise enough to pay a tiny price to have to use other ways to access those features on affected apps because the overall benefit to the system seem to be so significant.

To me it doesn’t apply much using all of the Home buttons features. It’s less likely that I’ll double-press Home button to bring up media controls when the device is locked etc.

Rudberg also seems to point out the same aspect that is the Home Button on iOS devices is over burdened with functions and thus becomes less responsive within the passage of time due to reasons such as wear and tear because of constant use! These gestures will not completely eliminate but will reduce one’s use of that button.

It is also suggested by Rudberg that the features could be optional, provided with a preference for users to either turn them on or off in the Settings app such as the present multitasking gesture on the iPad. He’s filed the request for this feature at Apple and hopefully it would be added in the future iOS version as a option.

Why Android’s UI Isn’t As “Smooth” As iOS

Android vs iPhone

A few Google+ posts by a Google Engineer and by a former Google intern and soon-to-be Microsoft intern correct poor "facts" and shed some light on why Android's user interface isn't as smooth as iOS's. The reason may not be what you think it is.

Dianne Hackborn, an engineer at Google, hopped on Google Plus to set straight some of the misinformation that's been floating around about Android.

She says that some form of hardware acceleration has always been utilized by Android, since Android 1.0. This includes window compositing, menu transitions and pop-ups, the notification bar's animation, and some others.

However, prior to Android 3.0 - "Honeycomb," the tablet-targeted OS - drawing inside of a window was usually software based, and hardware acceleration wasn't needed to get 60fps frame rates. Honeycomb changed things to add more prevalent hardware acceleration options to developers. Android's newest version, 4.0 or "Ice Cream Sandwich," hasn't made drastic changes except that hardware acceleration is on by default now.

A key fact of the debate of Android performance has been the use of hardware acceleration. Hackborn describes why using it isn't really as ideal as people think it is:

Hardware accelerated drawing is not all full of win. For example on the PVR drivers of devices like the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus, simply starting to use OpenGL in a process eats about 8MB of RAM. Given that our process overhead is about 2MB, this is pretty huge. That RAM takes away from other things, such as the number of background processes that can be kept running, potentially slowing down things like app switching.

Overall, Hackborn sets quite a few facts straight in her long post. Be sure to check it out.

Andrew Munn, a former Google intern and soon-to-be Microsoft intern, took Hackborn's facts and aimed to explain why Android doesn't provide as smooth of a user interface as iOS, WebOS, or even Windows Phone 7.

RedmondPie summarizes Munn pretty well:

UI rendering processes in iOS occur with dedicated threads with real-time priority whereas on Android, UI rendering processes occur along with the main thread with normal priority. Whenever an iOS devices detects touch, it stops other processes and focuses all attention to rendering the UI. Android devices don’t do this, instead general processing and UI rendering occurs concurrently which results in choppy UI.

Munn states in his disclaimer that he has tried to do as much research as he can, but he did not work on the Android framework, nor has he gone through Android's rendering source code.

If you're more interested, be sure to check out the original posts linked below. They contain quite a bit of valuable information, especially considering that Android's lack of smoothness is one of its biggest criticisms.

Sprint To Start Locking iPhone 4S SIMs From Today, November 11th

We knew this was coming, and today Sprint confirmed that it would start SIM locking the iPhone 4S. The news comes from an internal memo obtained by SprintFeed and a press release obtained by Engadget.

The press release said:

Sprint's policy is to have the iPhone 4S SIM locked to our network domestically and internationally. Beginning on November 11, the International SIM will be locked for devices provisioned on the Sprint network. Customers in good standing for at least 90 days can request to have their SIM unlocked for international use by calling Customer Care at 888-211-4727.

The leaked memo provides additional details about the locking process. Key points being:

A Sprint iPhone 4S bought (activated) before 11/11/11 would remain unlocked. The locking occurs during the activation process and is invisible to the customer (no extra action is needed by customer).

As iDB points out, a software restore of your Sprint iPhone 4S may lock your device's unlocked SIM slot. This is because after every software restore, iPhones have to be activated, and as the memo mentions, the "locking" happens during this process.

Sprint iPhone 4S Memo

Although the iPhone 4S is a World Phone, you would need to go through Sprint's customer care to get your iPhone SIM unlocked. Sprint is also marketing its own international roaming plans along with the announcement.

The other CDMA network in the U.S., Verizon, had from day one sold the iPhone 4S SIM locked.

For the full text of the press release head over to the Engadget source link below.

Unlocked iPhone 4S Now Available In U.S.

Apple's new iPhone 4S went on sale last month, however the fine print on Apple's US website revealed that the unlocked iPhone 4S will be available only in the November.

So as promised Apple has started offering unlocked iPhone 4S in the US starting today.

As we had noted earlier, the unlocked iPhone 4S will be compatible with only GSM Networks. Apple is selling the unlocked iPhone 4S for $649/$749/$849 for the 16/32/64 GB models respectively with estimated shipping of 1-2 weeks.

Apple has this to say about the unlocked iPhone 4S:

The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a contract commitment. You can activate and use it on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice, such as AT&T in the United States.* The unlocked iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S will not work with CDMA-based carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint. If you don’t want a multiyear service contract or if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked iPhone is the best choice. It arrives without a micro-SIM card, so you’ll need an active micro-SIM card from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using it, simply insert the micro-SIM card into the slot on your iPhone and turn it on by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.

Incidentally, the contract-free GSM iPhone 4S that Apple has been selling since the launch were already unlocked and not locked to AT&T's network.

Despite the high price, factory unlocked iPhones are popular among international travelers who may need to frequently switch SIM cards to avoid the exorbitant international roaming charges.

Are you planning to buy an unlocked iPhone 4S? Do you think it is worth the premium? Let us know in the comments below.

Google Search iOS App Updated For iPhone And iPad

Google has just come up with an update to the Google Search iOS app which brings a brand new design for iPad and full-screen mode for search results and pages on an iPhone . The new interface on the iPad is inspired by the design recently showed across the majority of Google’s web services.

Now there are 4 grey icons on the main search page as History, Voice Search, Applications and Goggles. Also included in the update is a full-screen browsing mode and a visual UI for history allowing you to thumb through search results as pages.

The side-by-side view allows you to browse through web pages and search results simultaneously. Google Instant and Instant previews are also included in the iPad version. As for the iPhone, the update only lists minor bug fixes along with a full-screen mode provided. Updated Google Search app can be downloaded via iTunes.

iOS 5 Causing Some Users To Lose WiFi Connectivity

Since iOS 5 was released, users have been struggling its frustrating bugs and issues, the most prominent of which is the quick battery drainage. Though the iPhone 4S is packed with a lot of impressive features, users fail to enjoy them because of the battery issue which renders their iPhones unreliable.

In an attempt by Apple to fix the battery issue, iOS 5.0.1 was released promising better performance. However the problem still lingers and users have to wait still for a fix.
In addition to the memory leak problem which delayed the release of iOS 5.0.2 which was expected to launch couple of days ago, the current iOS 5 devices are apparently struggling with another issue which is connecting to Wi-Fi netwroks. Even if an iOS 5 device manages to connect to a Wi-Fi network, users still report sluggish weak connection signal which soon drops completely.
Looks like iOS 5 is backed with flaws that Apple has to address before it has too many bemused users on its hands.

Siri Finally Gets Cracked! Can Now Be Ported To Android, Mac, iPhone 4, iPad 2!

You read it right, folks! You’ll be able to soon to run Siri on any device you just wish. Applidium, a French engineering firm, has managed to crack Siri’s security protocol that made Siri limited to the iPhone 4S. In other words, you’ll be able to run Siri on any device including Android, Mac and Windows.

This also includes any model of the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Siri is now not limited to the iPhone 4S, it can run on any iOS device and even on non-iOS devices.
What’s more amazing? Well, the awesome thing about this is that developers can now integrate Siri inside their apps too.

The iPhone 4S really sends raw audio data. It’s compressed using the Speex audio codec, which makes sense as it’s a codec specifically tailored for VoIP.The iPhone 4S sends identifiers everywhere. So if you want to use Siri on another device, you still need the identfier of at least one iPhone 4S. Of course we’re not publishing ours, but it’s very easy to retrieve one using the tools we’ve written. Of course Apple could blacklist an identifier, but as long as you’re keeping it for personal use, that should be alright!
The developers also found that Apple uses a lot of information when it communicates with its servers when it comes to Siri:

The protocol is actually very, very chatty. Your iPhone sends a tons of things to Apple’s servers. And those servers reply an incredible amount of informations. For example, when you’re using text-to-speech, Apple’s server even reply a confidence score and the timestamp of each word.
There’s only one bad thing; you’ll need a UDID of an iPhone 4S to get this cracking working on your device so at any time Apple could block the UDID you used. This means tat Apple could push a fix once it’s released, another cat and mouse game!
Siri was successfully ported to the iPhone 4 and iPod touch couple of weeks back. It has been also connected to Apple’s servers successfully.
Can’t wait to see this!

How To Enable Hidden iTunes ”Now Playing” Notification On Mac OS X

Hidden deep in the new Lion OS X, turns out that a new iTunes Dock setting. Once you have activated it, a pop up notification of which iTunes track is currently playing will appear. You may prefer the native one found in Lion rather than programming Growl to show similar notifications.

Those running the latest Lion OS X 10.7 are going to have this feature available. You just need to activate it. After a few simple steps explained below, a window will pop up above the iTunes icon on the Dock each time a new track starts displaying the song title and the artist. The notification window is going to close automatically after a couple of seconds.
STEP 1: Before anything, you’ll need to close iTunes.
STEP 2: Open the Terminal (Applications > Utilities)
STEP 3: Enter the following command:

defaults write com.apple.dock itunes-notifications -bool TRUE;killall Dock
STEP 4: You have the option to customize it by adding the iTunes icon in the pop up along with the track info with the following command:

defaults write com.apple.dock notification-always-show-image -bool TRUE;killall Dock
Now launch iTunes and get ready to try it!
Some of you might find it distracting but for others it may turn out to be pretty cool . Nevertheless here are the steps to deactivate it just in case.
You can disable the “Now Playing” notification in Mac OS X by writing the below commands in the terminal:

defaults delete com.apple.dock itunes-notifications
defaults delete com.apple.dock notification-always-show-image;killall Dock
Keir Thomas came up with this tweak and shared it on Mac OS X hints. He mentioned that it came with bundled options which allowed for the change in width and height of the notification window. Apple may be working on a new notification system which is compatible with OS X applications but may not be ready to make it official.

AppleInsider today reported that iOS 5.0.2 has memory leak issues that Apple needs to fix before the release so it might have been delayed.
The report says that iOS 5.0.2 new date is not set yet and it will finally fix battery woes for iPhone 4S users:

Apple Might Be Working On NFC-Based Mobile Payment System

With Google already embraced NFC for mobile payments, Apple fans were expecting an NFC enabled iPhone which certainly didn’t happen as iPhone 4S has got no such hardware to support it. Though Apple is behind its competitors’ to launch an NFC enabled iPhone, they are certainly not sitting around!

According to PatentlyApple, the US Patent and Trademark office published 31 newly granted patents for Apple and NFC is one of them. Which means Apple is leading the market from behind, letting Google do all the work, and that is really very clever of them! Besides, as you all are aware of that Apple has recently introduced self-checkout in store, which is might be the first step to bring NFC technology in their next iOS devices.

Hidden Code In iOS 5 Contains Interesting iPad 3 References (REPORT)

Some interesting information hidden deep within the code of iOS 5 has been uncovered by the folks over at 9to5mac. By code-digging over the last few months – including Siri, several secret features in the new software have been exposed by the site.

The recent find concerns on an unreleased Apple product, codenamed J2. The site considers that this could be the next version of the iPad. Apart from that, the folks also think that this could be the eagerly awaited Retina display-equipped tablet that everyone has been talking about.

The J2 codename matches up with a report from Digitimes which also named a J2 device as Apple’s next tablet. The report mentioned that Apple is currently giving two tablet PC projects to its upstream partners for development codenamed J1 and J2. The major differences according to the sources between the new tablet PCs compared to the previous models will be their size, specifications and technologies.

According to 9to5Mac, J1 and J2 are similar tablets, with J2 being the 3G model. Apple might also be testing the device as referenced in iOS 5 in early betas.

Rumors have been heard that Apple was working on an iPad with a Retina-like screen before, but such evidence have been seen for the first time. But still it seems like Apple and its supply partners are facing problems in producing high resolution displays.

Due to manufacturing limitations, Apple may have to decide between a thinner tablet with a lower screen resolution or an iPad with a Retina display which is slightly thicker.

Which one would be a better choice? Share your thoughts below.

Galaxy Nexus Outshines iPhone 4S In Most Benchmark Tests (REPORT)

Samsung Galaxy Nexus – the first device to feature Andrioid 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) – can already be found in the UK market despite having not being launched Stateside. The comparisons between it and others on the market have already started.

AnandTech has started off with a few benchmark tests, which scrutinize devices in key areas, scoring points depending on its capabilities, and then compared with competitors on the market. With that being said , Apple’s treasured iPhone 4S and iOS 5 do lack in some areas despite great early sales figures.

Galaxy Nexus has taken the #1 spot after quite a few tests that is highly attributable to Ice Cream Sandwich as opposed to the device itself, which is nothing astronomical despite being competitive in processor speed/GPU.

You can see from the graph the tested browsing speeds of Samsung’s latest offering. Even though the difference might be minor, such everyday tasks must be fluent and easily executed as possible. And from what you see, it out passes the Galaxy S II by a double, which is not certainly a slow device.

However, Galaxy Nexus doesn’t have everything its own way despite dominating on most fronts. iPhone 4S, with its dual-core A5 chip, outshines the Samsung rival in the GPU loading stakes which is very important for smooth game play.

Although the Galaxy Nexus dominates on most fronts, it doesn’t have everything its own way. The iPhone 4S, with its dual-core A5 chip, outdoes its Samsung rival in the GPU loading stakes – pretty important to ensure smooth game play.

But surely, the speed of emails and aforementioned browsing and other essentials should be held highly in regard than potential for gaming. Despite this claim, with smartphones becoming the new hand held console, gaming potential in a smartphone must be just as important as anything else very soon.

The American following would be more eager to get their hands on the device after hearing this news which is running the latest mobile OS from the Big G. Let’s hope the wait isn’t much longer.

Bugs Continue To Haunt iOS 5.0.1 Users

iOS 5.0.1 was released to solve the battery issues that iPhone 4S owners were experiencing. But Apple released a statement which said that there are still investigating a few remaining issues with the new version. Now many users are discovering a new host of bugs on iOS 5.01.

According to GigoOm, apart from poor battery issues that the users are experiencing on iOS 5.0.1, users are also experiencing WiFi drop-outs, microphone problems and a weird bug in contact recognition on the Verizon iPhone 4S.

There are numerous pages of bug complaints about bugs in iOS 5.0.1, with iOS 5.0.1 not solving most of the problems. Apple didn’t clearly mention that which issues are still not resolved after releasing the new version so one can’t expect the bugs and glitches to be fixed any time sooner.

On the Verizon iPhone 4S , TheStartupFoundry discovered a new bug in which performing an OTA update to iOS 5.0.1 makes the phone’s contacts to become unrecognized. Apart from that users won’t be able to downgrade from iOS 5 versions. So those on 5.0.1 are now trapped.

If you’ve updated to iOS 5.0.1, have you found any bugs? How is the battery life of your iPhone? We would like to hear your comments below.

How To Use Siri For Voice Dictation On Mac And PC

Majority of the public have welcomed Siri despite the mixed reviews. Many are hoping for the feature to be ported to the iPhone 4 and other non-approved devices. Even Mac OS X users are hoping to get the digital assistant.

While this might take some time to happen, this workaround might fill in the gap. The method mentioned below allows desktop users (PC or Mac) to dictate their text using Siri. It’s really easy to do and doesn’t cost anything.

TUAW has passed along the obvious tip, which indicates that iPhone 4S users dictate the text on their desktops with a remote application. Apps like Mobile Mouse can connect the iPhone 4S to a desktop client over Wi-Fi, allowing to remotely type on the computer using iPhone 4S’ Siri.

The theory has been tested on an iPhone 4S and Macbook. This involved installation of Mobile Mouse’s desktop client and that was it.After launching the app, the tester was dictating the text to the Max seconds. The process was found to be both speedy and accurate.

There are many similar dictation softwares available, but the price tag reaches above $50. You can download Mobile Mouse Lite from App Store for free. Even the pro version, which comes with more features, costs around $2.00.

Features:

Mouse based on the Accelerometer technology (translates your hand motions into mouse movements)Vertical and horizontal use of the track padFile browserMulti – touch gestures ( Supports Scrolling and right click )Media Keys (Shortcuts to control media applications)Numeric keyboardHot-keys to run different applicationsWorks with multiple displaysBuilt for both MAC and WindowsIf you found this post useful, hopefully hit the +1 (recommend) button ?

Apple Is Working On Crack-Resistant Glass For Future Devices (PATENT)

The iPhone, since its launch back in 2007, has received a lot of praise thanks to its software, high-resolution camera, display screens, ease of use and more but there has been one thing that disturbs iPhone users, the fast damage of its front and back glass panels. Apple actually is working on solving this problem.

According to PatentlyApple, it has been revealed that Apple is currently working on developing crack-resistant glass for future devices. The patent describes the method of developing crack resistant glass solutions for iPhone, there are many ways to do thing but only a couple work.

iDownloadBlog gives a quick description:

The first one involves disposing a tunable shock mount between the cover glass and the main body. This would dampen the blow of a drop because it isolates the glass from the rest of the device. It would also help protect against water damage.

The second method is more complex, and pertains to a retractable glass cover that can sense when the device has been dropped. Using an actuator, control module, and sensors, the cover glass would be able to retract itself in the event that it detected a drop.

Hope this comes to the iPhone 5.

RadioShack Receiving Sprint iPhone 4S This Weekend

Now getting your hands on the Sprint iPhone 4S is a little easier as you have now got another outlet to go to. According to the internal documents obtained by 9to5mac, RadioShack will be introducing Apple’s latest handset to their Sprint lineup this weekend. Some stores are already filled with the stock now and many others will be getting the awaited iPhone 4S very soon.

But there is one thing that would disappoint you, according to the documents they have received, there is no indication that 32 or 64 GB models will be available at Radio Shack at this time.

Nevertheless the 16 GB model will be available in both the traditional colors (black and white) in all the stores currently carry the iPhone. Stores that don’t have the iPhone should be able to order it. RadioShack has been carrying the iPhone 4 on Sprint since they were selling the 4S on Verizon and AT&T last month with a note that the Sprint 4S would be a little late due to inventory issues.

Go to your local RadioShack this weekend to grab Apple’s latest smartphone.

Unlock iPhone 4 And iPhone 3GS On Any Baseband Without Jailbreak

A successful unlock to T-Mobile in US and other nation’s networks have been reported using the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. The method could be a bug and may be fixed with the next update of iOS.

First you need to know that this will only work until TMSI is refreshed, meaning that the unlock won’t stay for a long time. We have already posted the how-to guide to unlock the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS (follow the guide posted here). A little elbow grease may be required as swapping SIM cards is an integral part of the process and they need to have approximately the same size.

In the U.S., if you choose T-mobile for the iPhone carrier, you need to cut the standard iPhone SIM card to fit into the T-Mobile Micro-SIM slot. The best thing is this isn’t going to impact it’s functionality. You can use Google to find out the best way to do SIM card resizing if you can’t figure it out yourself.

When T-Mobile were left out from recieving an iPhone device, Sprint was the only new U.S carrier left for an iPhone device. When acquisition from AT&T happened, T-Mobile customer’s saw their wait come to an end. Before that, it would have been impossible for unlocking or using an iPhone 4 without a jailbreak.

If you have unlocked your iPhone successfully, don’t update your device when Apple releases iOS 5.0.2. This might  be an unexpected bug in the Apple iOS update. iOS 5.0.2 software update is expected to bring a remedy and an end to the simple unlocking process.

If you have been successful in unlocking your phone using this strategy, we would like to hear from you below.

Apple Fails To Silence The Voice Of Siri

It is a known fact that Apple tends to keep its technology and future developments a secret from the outside world until they decide themselves that the people should know about them. Mr. Jon Briggs reportedly got a call from Apple’s public relations representative who warned him against talking about Apple products in public, saying that Apple employees are not allowed to do so.

Mr. Jon Briggs replied that he was not under any contract with Apple and that the voice overs that he did and that are being used in Siri were done with another company by the name of Scansoft. He did the voice overs about six to five years ago.

He further said that he came to know that Apple was using his voice when he first saw a demonstration of Siri on the television. Though he was not told beforehand about his voice beings used, he is nevertheless a fan of Apple products and is happy that the work he has done can live forever.

How To Quickly Open Apps With Siri (Simple Trick)

Yes, you read it right, folks! That’s awesome; using a simple trick on your iPhone 4S, you’ll be able to quickly launch apps with Siri. Apple didn’t bring the ability to open apps using Siri but thanks to some tricks, you can actually do this on your style. Below we’re showing you how to open apps using voice commands from Siri.

The trick is based on launching apps via the URL scheme in Safari. For those who don’t know, you can launch any app and take some actions via Safari browser URLs. Developers has been working on finding some URL schemes which enables some hidden features on iOS too.

You can launch apps as Twitter, Facebook, App Store and more using URL schemes. Here’s some examples:

itms-apps:// – Open the App Storemaps:// – Open the Maps appsms:// – Open the compose window of the Messages appmusic:// – Go to the currently playing song in the Music appyoutube:// – Open the YouTube appitms-books:// – Open the iBooks app

Moreover, you can add commands to your apps too. If you want to launch Twitter and open the compose windows, you can simply do this by typing twitter://post?message into Safari.

Okay, now let’s get back to Siri:

For Siri, you’ll use the same option that Apple allows you to launch apps. Luckily, you can add URL schemes into a contact. So by creating a new contact and adding the URL scheme for the app you want to launch or the command you want to add, you’ll be able to call it via Siri.

We’ll take Facebook as an example, let’s add some popular schemes from the below ones to a contact named “Facebook”:

fb://profile – Open Facebook app to the user’s profilefb://friends – Open Facebook app to the friends listfb://notifications – Open Facebook app to the notifications listfb://feed – Open Facebook app to the News Feedfb://events – Open Facebook app to the Events pagefb://requests – Open Facebook app to the Requests listfb://notes – Open Facebook app to the Notes pagefb://albums – Open Facebook app to Photo Albums list

Create a new contact and then scroll down till you get to the URLs section at the bottom. Add some of those above and save contact as shown below:

What now? Just tell Siri “Facebook” and it will show you your contact with your commands. If you only added one URL scheme, it’ll do it immediately.

You can find all URL schemes here.

Below is a video showing in action:

Awesome, isn’t it?

Adobe Discontinues Development Of Flash Player For iOS And Mobile Phones, Shifts Focus Towards HTML5

On Tuesday Adobe had made an announcement to its partners that it will not be continuing further development of flash player for mobile phones and now the news has been confirmed and made public.

This news is said to be in contrast with the fact that Steve Jobs had expressed his thoughts about Flash in an open letter which also explained why Apple would not support flash for its mobile devices.

So instead of working on Flash for mobile phones, Adobe has planned to continue developing tools to produce applications that work on mobile app stores, including Apple’s App Store.

Furthermore Adobe’s vice president of Flash Client Platform has expressed his views about the new HTML5 which is now available across major mobile devices. The company is said to contribute “more aggressively” to HTML5.

However with the discontinued Flash player, Adobe has till promised to provide with “critical bug fixes and security updates” for the existing devices.
