Apple Replaces Your First Generation iPod Nano Due To Battery Issue

Apple Inc, which is the leading multination corporation of electronic hardware and software, has opened a replacement program for the first Generation iPod nano. The reason of this replacement is that these iPod nano’s are causing serious overheating problems.

Originally these components were sold between the months of September and December in the year 2005. According to Apple, the overheating problem is not on a large scale if the battery of these iPods is newly built but as these iPod nano’s are already five years old the chance of overheating are very high.

This is why, Apple started this replacement program in which it is telling people to stop using their first generation iPod nano and replace it with another one free of charge. This program is applicable through Apple’s website. The person, first have to write the serial number of his iPod to move forward then after filling the complete replacement page the user have to wait for six weeks.  After this break of six week, replacement unit for the first generation iPod nano will be sent to its user.

The important thing about this program is that first it is only for the first generation iPod nano and second after the break it will not replace the product of late informers. You can get additional information from any Apple retail store or an Apple authorized service provider.

AT&T Launches VoIP App To Make International Calls — Download Now!

AT&T has launched its own app for smartphones to make international calls over the internet. This has been an answer to the highly acclaimed Skype which most people are still using on their smartphones to make calls over the internet.

The new app called piggybacks has been branded by the carrier itself. It allows the users in U.S to make international calls over their 3G networks which is much cheaper as compare to calling from their own AT&T network. Users can also make calls where a Wi-Fi connection is available. As long as you are hooked to an internet connection you are ready to go.

With the new app you can make calls to fixed line numbers in China, France, Germany and the UK at 4 cents/minute. To Mexico and India you can make calls to fixed line numbers at 8 cents and 9 cents respectively. Calling cellphones is still a little bit expensive. It can cost you around 21 to 27 cents per minute to call European number and the same rate is applicable to wireless numbers in China and India.

In addition to the availability on iPhones the app is also available on selected Android and Blackberry cellphones. You can also request for separate billing to your AT&T account. And the good part is there is no contract or minimum calling required!

iOS & Android Beat Sony & Nintendo In Portable Gaming

Mobile analytics firm Flurry reported on Wednesday that trend of portable gaming is shifting from dedicated devices to smartphones and other multipurpose devices. According to results compiled by Flurry from NPD market research, Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android mobile OS will take up for almost 58% of portable gaming revenue in the United States for 2011, this is the complete opposite of what was happening in 2010 where Nintendo owned the same percentage of market share.

The data for 2011 is based on estimated of the last two months, however, the increasing growth in gaming on smartphones the actual statistics might remain the same. The ability to download somewhat free games or very cheap games to pass time surely casual gaming trend would have been expected to rise in the smartphones. Furthermore the ability to purchase new titles or read reviews about them from the ease of your hand held device who would want to go out and look for expensive game titles. Don’t forget the huge success of angry birds!

Nintendo’s decision not to make their games available on multiple platform might eventually hurt the company. Sony has already realized the situation and is now working on providing the same aspects of a smartphone to its portable gaming devices. Furthermore the recent Sony Ericsson release of an gaming smartphone named the Xperia Play will also be a good asset towards the smartphone gaming industry.

Texas Instrument and Brookstone have announced a pocket projector case for the iPhone. This new case allows you to project your iPhone screen. The pocket projector is said to have an introductory price of $230. The design is somewhat similar to the battery cases available in the market. You can just slide on your iPhone on the jack and you get extended battery however the case makes the device 10x heavier.

The pocket projector’s lamp rests under the front of the iPhone where the audio jack is available. The lamp is powered by a 15-lumen-LED projection lamp and Texas Instruments’ DLP Pico projector technology. Below it is a small 0.5 watt speaker. According to the companies claim, the Pico projector can produce images up to 50 inches diagonally with a 640×360 pixel native display resolution.

Reasons Behind Motorola’s Restriction Against Apple In Germany

It is a true phrase that “As you sow so shall you reap”. The real life example of this phrase has been given by the Apple. Every one knows how Apple tried to ban Samsung over the matter of patents. Apple has humiliated Samsung on these matters but still it didn’t have the last laugh. It is famous all over the world that all these multinational corporations try to sue each other only to get ahead of the competition. Some of them succeed while some fail.

It is recent news that on Friday 4th of November 2011, Apple, the same company who tried to ban Samsung on the matter of patents, was sued by Motorola on the same matter. Motorola won the primarily injunction against Apple at Germany.

In the court, the conclusion didn’t mention any Apple products by name, but said that the Apple can’t offer any mobile devices that violate on two Motorola patents related to wireless technology, that makes the iPhone and iPad the most likely to be affected. The court also says that if Apple did not respect this judgement, then it may have to pay a €250,000 on court’s decision.

The only reason why Apple got in this situation was because its representatives never show up in the court and didn’t care about its judgment. So in the end, Apple was not worried about this case as they have already won many cases of patents around the world.

Discover How Angry Birds Really Works

It is unanimous, that one of the most popular iPhone and iPad app till date is Angry Birds. Starting from its highly amusing and catchy music and sound effects, to the adorable animated character and the highly engaging game itself, there is hardly an Apple user who hasn’t played this game.

The popularity of this game can be estimated by the fact that this game is now playable in web browsers too, Google Chrome being the pioneer web browsing application to allow its users to play a mini-version of the game.

Have you ever wondered how to actually play and master the game? Have you ever wondered whether the birds and the catapults along with your swing, acceleration and tap have a relationship or is there just a random pattern the shots follow? Have you ever wondered whether physics or math comes into play when taking an aim at the pigs on the other end of the screen? If you have, you are thinking along the same lines as Wired’s Rhett Allain.

He has been consistently applying the concepts and theories of physics and math to this game, which to the masses appears to be a mere source of entertainment and game play. By measuring the vertical and horizontal velocity and acceleration of the birds, Rhett Allain, tries to undercover the dynamics of this successful app.

But what about the physics? Do the birds have a constant vertical acceleration? Do they have constant horizontal velocity? Let’s find out, shall we? Oh, why would I do this? Why can’t I just play the dumb game and move on? That is not how I roll. I will analyze this, and you can’t stop me.

A small excerpt for math lovers:

Just to check, let me make a plot of the magnitude of the velocity right before the tap vs. the acceleration during the tap. Oh, it looks like all of the shots have the yellow bird accelerating (due to the tap) for 0.067 seconds. Of course this acceleration could just be due to the screen capture frame rate.

It doesn’t look like there is a simple relationship here. It also doesn’t look like the tap-acceleration is constant. The magnitude of this acceleration ranged from 124 m/s2 to 336 m/s2.

You can read more by heading over the Allain’s article.

How To Dictate Notes In Evernote With Siri On iPhone 4S

Folks at Evernote have figured out a way to use Siri - iPhone 4s' revolutionary voice activated personal assistant feature to dictate notes into Evernote account.

Andrew Sinkov has explained how to get Siri to work with Evernote on their blog:

make Evernote a contact in your address book with your incoming Evernote email address. You can add the email by going into Evernote > Settings > Evernote email address.

Launch Siri and say “Send email to Evernote.” Next, dictate your email and send it off. The message will show up in your default notebook. Even cooler, you can say “Send email to Evernote. Make apple pie for family reunion,” and Siri will send that note into your account.

It is great to see companies like Evernote and Remember the Milk figuring out a way to get their apps to work with Siri, which is easily the hottest smartphone feature of 2011.
